In our last blog, we talked about what things can damage your roof while it is exposed to the elements of weather and nature. While these things are out of our control, you are in control about how well your roof is taken care of. Just because the wind blows and you find a piece of a shingle in the grass, it doesn’t mean that you need a whole roof replacement. A quick roof repair may be all you need but you need to know what you are looking for specifically to determine what you need.
The age of your roof will be the ultimate decision maker when it comes to whether you need a simple roof repair or a replacement. If your roof is older than 20 years, then you will most likely want to think about getting a replacement roof. Another huge factor is whether or not the roofers removed the last roof completely or if you have an extra layer of shingles.
Curling or buckling shingles
A good sign that you need a new roof is if you see a lot of curling or buckling in the shingles. The sun has the ability to dry out your shingles making them curl and no longer lay flat. If your shingles are going “bald”, meaning that they are losing their granules, it could also mean that you’re in need of a new roof.
The roof valleys are the creases in your roof that helps water runoff get to the gutters efficiently. If the shingles in the roof valleys are damaged or even missing, you could have a lot of trouble on your hands if it is not repaired quickly.
This is only the first few warning signs you may see if you need a roof repair or replacement. Make sure to check back soon to see more of our extensive list. In the meantime, call TM Restoration to set up a free estimate.
